Editor’s Review: Summer Footwear from pediped

We’ve been enjoying a lot of backyard time and comfortable footwear is a must for long walks and outdoor play with the kids!  We had the opportunity to test out footwear from pediped, for both babies and kids, and absolutely loved this brand.

The footwear brand – which now boasts over 120 designs spanning EU sizes 17-38 – was founded in 2005 by Angela and Brian Edgeworth. When the couple’s first daughter was born, Angela started thinking a lot about footwear and the kinds of shoes that would be best for her young daughter. She searched for shoes that would be both comfortable and stylish, with the option for indoor and outdoor use, and most importantly, she wanted shoes that were healthy for her child’s growing soles. The couple decided to create the perfect shoe (after doing a lot of research) and ultimately designed a product that is the “nest best thing to bare feet.”

Flash forward to 2020 and pediped is sold around the world and is one of the fastest-growing kid’s footwear brands in the USA! They offer 3 unique footwear lines including Originals® (soft-soled shoes for children ages birth to 2), Grip ‘n’ Go™ (soft rubber-soled shoes for children about 9 months to 3 years) and Flex® (rubber-soled shoes for children about 1-9 years).

I couldn’t wait to get these shoes on my kids and test them out, but first, we needed to determine what size! I downloaded and printed the easy-to-use size chart on their website and I measured my kiddos feet to ensure the best fit. This was incredibly helpful as I am not super familiar with EU sizing for shoes.

For Isla, we received the Flex® Jake in the colour “white floral.”  As soon as we opened the box she was obsessed with the look of them; not only did she LOVE the floral print (I knew she would when I ordered them), but she was so pleased that she could put them on all by herself! The elastic laces make it so simple for little hands to pull these shoes on and secure with the velcro strap across the top. Unique to the brand is the Flex Fit System™ this provides additional insoles that can be inserted for a snug fit then removed as your child’s foot grows. These insoles can reduce shoe size by almost half a size, extending the life of the shoe. I put the Flex Fit insoles in now, but by the fall I will probably remove them.

For Liam, we received the Originals® Dani shoe in white/grey. This little sneaker-look shoe is perfect for beginning walkers, like Liam! The sole is slip-resistant and crafted from high-quality, non-toxic leather. The style allows little toes to move, grip and feel the floor under them – exactly what they need when learning to walk! I love that they have the same functionality as the Jake shoe – super stretchy elastic laces combined with a velcro strap.

Sandals are a summer necessity so, of course, we tried out a pair for both kids. Liam is loving the Originals® Harvey sandal. The canvas upper and soft sole is the perfect combination as he explores the great outdoors! I love how lightweight they are, allowing for lots of airflow to his little toes. For Isla, the Flex® NIKKI sandal in silver is our favourite. The style is so feminine and still so, so comfortable! pediped doesn’t forget that kids need the same features in a sandal as they do in a sneaker, they bring the same technology, memory foam comfort and chic style to their whole line of summer footwear!

We absolutely loved testing out pediped shoes in our home and I was even more thrilled when I learned that the brand was one of the first children’s shoe companies the American Podiatric Medical Association awarded their Seal of Acceptance for promoting healthy foot development!
