New runway show alert! For the first time ever, Pitti Bimbo featured Kids.MODAPORTUGAL, a brand new addition to the Pitti family. We were beyond excited to see what the latest catwalk had in store for the season. Full of colour, fun patterns, and cool props, brands dazzled on stage. The show concluded with a shower of confetti raining down on the rainway, as models playfully jumped for joy.
Founded by CENIT, a branch of the Portuguese Association of Clothing and Apparel Industry, Kids.MODAPORTUGAL is an initiative to globally promote Portuguese designers and their collections. As part of the initiative, 26 new Portuguese brands came to showcase their gorgeous pieces at Pitti Bimbo 89. Six of these designers got to kick off the first-ever Kids.MODAPORTUGAL Show – Cherry Papaya, Knot, Laranjinha, Patachou, Phi Clothing, and Play Up.
An especially noteworthy part of the Kids.MODAPORTUGAL show was Cherry Papaya’s brilliantly executed Re(connect) with Nature theme. With a mission statement to “create a kids’ brand which is positively tantrum-proof”, the line provides maximum comfort designs made of premium organic cotton. Using exclusive patterns and prints, Cherry Papaya paints a story with every collection, recreating the ordinary in the purest and astonishing way. This season, it’s all about reconnecting with mother nature – taking a step back and enjoying the fresh air cricket sounds, and barefoot walks on the grass. The theme was perfectly executed – we absolutely loved the collection’s easygoing nature and beautiful fabric prints.
Playful and sophisticated, the latest Knot SS20 collection is outstanding. Channeling childhood curiosity and the ability to learn, the collection captures the magic of life and its never-ending possibilities. Using soft hues and lightweight materials, the pieces are perfect for delightful summer adventures. With a focus on detail, quality, and safety, Knot elevates the comfort of classic European designs, creating beautiful, premium pieces.
Endless days, no limits of time and unforgettable adventures – this season’s Laranjinha collection is packed with emotions. The line, made 100% in Portugal, is the perfect representation of carefree, hot summer days. Founded in 1981, Laranjinha continues to deliver high-quality designs that are timeless.
A must-see highlight of the show was Patachou’s spectacular runway collection. Beautiful babydoll models paraded across the catwalk holding breathtaking sets of helium balloons, giving the collection a poised and uplifting ambiance. Patachou’s SS20 collection is inspired by holidays and happy moments, offering pieces for every occasion. With high-end soft fabrics and chic timeless statements, this accessible luxury brand is rapidly gaining recognition across international markets.
Light, fresh, and romantic, Phi Clothing creates beautiful quality pieces for the latest season. The Masaya Collection uses florals, polka dots, and other fun patterns and prints to wow the audience at Kids.MODAPORTUGAL. We especially fell in love with its fun accessories, such as cute straw knit bags and sunhats!
We were beyond excited to see Play Up’s collection on the catwalk this season. With a fascinating backstory and a unique design process, Play Up is one-of-a-kind. The brand leverages its strong textile heritage, bringing back techniques used before automotive manufacturing to create rare pieces. This season, Play Up is entering Chapter Three of its Embracing Slow Making journey – this time, focusing on the art of weaving. Through exploring the rhythm, form, and techniques of the craft, the brand creates unique and unrepeatable pieces by linking each one to its creator. Each of Play Up’s collections is created in collaboration with Portuguese artists and creators, with SS20 featuring Rita Sevilha. Rita, an outstanding architect, and a sea lover, underlines the collection’s sustainability, using natural fibers and organic cotton.
