Design-driven children’s wear label, Infantium Victoria reflects on humble origins, and spring miracles for SS19 in this year’s theme.
The new collection calls upon us to celebrate our connection to the earth, sun, water, and humankind. Garments are both playful and sophisticated, making use of asymmetrical lines, contrasting fabrics, and whimsical details that delight the senses and speak to the wonder and magic of childhood. From hand-drawn prints, with rows of crops, and wooden tractor charms, to decorative pockets abound, hinting at the triangular form of the common garden spade – Origins reminds us to cherish our connection to the land and to appreciate our natural resources, which have sustained human civilization since the very beginning.
Dreaming of sunny days and blue skies, their original blue plaid print is showcased in ‘happy shades’ of blue and cream for boiler suits, sleeveless blouses, and cocoon-shaped sheath dresses. Soft, organic cotton knit sweater vests and cardigans in red and black evoke clay-earth country or rich volcanic substrates.
Our favourite looks from the collection includes the boiler suit – taking centre stage. In many different variations, each look equal parts wearable and avant-garde from a button front, short-sleeved black romper with contrast stitching plays on their signature black base and paired with a colourfully embroidered neck scarf; a mint-green one-piece with a high, folded neck line and diagonal front zipper accented with a built-in belt knotted at the waist. Soft, short coveralls in black or cream are embellished with cloud patches and a wooden tractor charm dangles from a front belt loop; long-sleeved boiler suits in various colour-ways with pleating at the chest and leg cut a sleek silhouette for statement dressing.
Just like the transition from winter to spring, dark to light – a selection of simple and elegant cotton dresses in black, aubergine, and cream are accented with pleats, halter style necklines, or contrasting petticoat elements and lettuce green lining. For grand entrances, a midi dress with ruffled skirt and pops of bright green suggest the first tender shoots of Spring poking up through black earth.
