Editor’s Review: Diono Flexa Stroller

The Diono Flexa stroller delivers on its promise to be the perfect stroller for big city living! Big when you need it to be and small when you don’t, we think the Flexa may be your new favourite stroller. We took the ‘editions’ model of this compact buggy on a recent visit to New York City and put it to the test!

Weighing in at only 18lbs, this sleek stroller is lighter than your baby! This makes it perfect for travel or everyday use, especially if taking public transit is part of your day-to-day activities. We found it incredibly easy to fold up and carry down a few flights of NYC’s subway stairs when needed.

On the topic of folding, while some strollers claim to have a one handed fold the Diono Flexa actually made true on the promise! Once folded, the Flexa is incredibly compact, allowing it to tuck neatly behind a door or into a small closet for storage without taking up much space at all; perfect for a New York hotel room or apartment.

Flexa’s back double wheels and shocks made for an incredibly comfortable ride and pushing experience. I love how the wheels sit on individual shocks, allowing for the stroller wheels to adjust independently to uneven sidewalks and bumpy curbs. It handled SoHo’s cobblestone streets with ease!

I also loved how the stroller’s 4-position adjustable handles allowed for both my husband and myself to push at our preferred heights. Plus, when the telescopic handles are in their lowest position, the stroller can fit into even smaller spaces – great for the subway or in a crowded restaurant!

Not many strollers on the market come with everything you need! Typically when purchasing a new stroller you must also buy car seat adapters, a rain cover and even the bumper bar! This is not the case with the Diono Flexa. I was thrilled to find all these goodies in the box, especially the car seat adapters so we could begin using the stroller as a travel system right away!

This is without a doubt one of the prettiest strollers I’ve owned! The Flexa editions model comes in this beautiful blue turquoise colour, (which is even more stunning in person) yellow and black. The stroller’s fabric is breathable and soft to the touch, with the weight and texture of your favourite performance-wear pieces. For parents who are looking for even more style, consider upgrading to the Flexa Luxe. This model is offered in a sharp Black Camo or Black Platinum, which features a black canopy with a geometric white design. Whichever colour you select, you’ll be impressed by the all-new copper blend fabric which is anti-bacterial, anti-order and quick drying.

The Diono Flexa has become my go-to, out-and-about stroller as it fits perfectly in my small (electric car) trunk. I keep the car seat adapters handy to use it as a travel system for short distances my preschooler can easily walk or pop my baby in a body carrier if my daughter is feeling tired. I love that this stroller is suitable for newborns – children who weigh 50lbs!

The perfect accessory to this stroller is the cozy all-weather foot muff. Designed to keep little ones cozy, warm and dry, the foot muff is a definite must have, especially during the cold months! The plush interior lining is so soft and cozy, and the central zipper makes it easy to get kids in and out. I loved that the footmuff colour matched the Flexa stroller exactly – it looks super sleek! I’ve used it for both my older preschooler and infant and it has been great for both.

The Flexa stroller truly has a lot going for it, however I do find myself a little frustrated with the storage basket at times. The stroller actually boasts a decent sized basket for such a compact unit, however the same ingenious structure that allows it to fold so narrowly, also makes the basket a bit inaccessible. You can definitely slip smaller items through the narrow opening or squeeze in your shopping bags, but fitting a diaper bag in the basket is out of the question.

There are definitely scenarios (school drop off!) where I prefer to use my double stroller, but the Diono Flexa has definitely found its place in, compactly tucked in my trunk and ready to adapt to both of my kid’s needs!
