Little Remix is a lovely Danish childrenswear label based in Copenhagen serving little ladies aged 4-16. The kids’ fashion brand was launched in 2007 and is a direct line to classic women’s wear label Designers Remix by Charlotte Exkildsen.
We love the label’s contemporary, modern style and we are excited to share with you our Q&A with the brand’s creative director, Charlotte!
What inspired the name of your label?
Since 2002 I have been the Creative Director for Designers Remix. By the expansion of my own family in 2006, I decided to expand with a miniature collection. This life-changing event naturally opened the opportunity to create kids wear that was inspired by women’s wear silhouettes. Why did you choose to design for children?
I would never have gone into children’s wear without having my own – it ́s’ too special. When you have your own children – you get so inspired and filled with energy. It is really the beauty of life. And for that reason I wanted to include my children in my passion for design.
What is your brand’s mission statement or goal?
Our mission is to create contemporary, stylish and directional children’s wear that allows children to children. To me children should always be ready for a little bit of misbehaving. I love the fantasies of a child -somehow their world is bigger than ours. And our mission is to be part of every mini-fashionista’s fashion fantasy. Why do you believe fashion/style is important for children?
We live in a mobilized global world where brands target consumers from a very young age. Children find inspiration on social medias like we do too, which creates a big demand for adult products in teen sizes. With a constant exposure to the world of fashion, the children of today have a bigger understanding of what is trending then in the past. This creates a bigger desire to express their personalities through the way they dress.
What are the motivations or inspirations behind the design?
Personally, I ́m inspired by Danish architecture. The way we live, where our home is, is key to the formation of culture itself, which has a big impact on my designs. Is there a style decade you are inspired by?
This season our Little Remix AW15 Collection ‘Django’ takes inspiration from the 70’s western films. It is a different take on the 70s vibe going on all over in the fashion business.
What do you have coming up that you are really excited about?
With a huge growth in our International sales channels, we have a few projects in the pipeline, which I can’t reveal just yet. But I am very excited about this development that opens a lot of interesting opportunities for a fashion House like Designers Remix.
What is your favourite piece from the collection?
I have a lot of favourites in the upcoming FW15 collection. One of the styles I personally like very much is the Erin Ruffle leather skirt, especially when it is styled with the studded belts. It is a combination of an easy-going and edgy summer skirt based on a huge ruffle trend created in high-quality lamb leather. It is a signature piece that represents the collection since it is mounted very deep in the brand’s DNA by creating cool children’s wear inspired by adult silhouettes, while taking inspiration in the iconic image of contemporary Western cowgirl, which is the overall theme for the collection.
